Though Kerala stand very high in literacy, the situation of Wayanad is not satisfactory. Nearly 40% of the tribals are illiterate and the rural people do not have accessibility for continuing education. Hence HiLDA promotes village libraries in highly remote areas. Nearly 300 families are benefiting through one such library. The libraries are the centers for learning and other development activities.
